Ocala native Jessica Dickson, the career scoring leader among men and women at both Vanguard High School and the University of South Florida and a 2nd-round WNBA draft pick, is in Sibenik, Croatia, continuing her professional basketball career. This is the third of her entries for The Sports Blog at ocala.com. Here is her first entry from September, her second entry from October, her third entry from November, her fourth entry from December and The Sports Blog's original post on her new signing.
Well, well. It has been a while since my last blog entry, and I tell you there has been a lot that has happened since my last chat. Let's see. I actually came home for Christmas break and I must say it was very, very lovely.
I enjoyed my time so much, spending time with family and friends. Those priceless moments. I tried to eat at every fast food resturant because I knew when I got back to Croatia I would not have that privilege. LOL! My mom was so happy to see me and have me home for some time, and it was definitely great to be home and to eat some of Mom's cooking. Always a great treat.
I attended the Kingdom of the Sun - always great to go back to Vanguard and support the basketball teams. The boys are very talented. They have a great team - I really enjoyed watching them play. While sitting down watching the game, every now and then I would glance up at my picture hanging up on the wall. Just looking at that picture brings back so many memories. Another thing comes to mind also when I look up at those pics on the wall at Vanguard's gym. How grateful I am that I was born in the 80s and didn't play in the 80s, because those shorts that I see (Annette) Powell and the others wearing, man oh man. I don't think I could have worn those shorts LOL!
Now what would a trip home be without me going back down to Tampa to visit USF? I had fun while I was down there. I got a chance to hang out with some of my former teammates and new (players) as well, and got a chance to shoot the breeze with my coaches. I had a good time. I also watched the USF women's team play against Yale. I had the best seat in the house - on the bench. Doesn't get any better than that. And of course watching them play brought back memories for me. I had the opportunity to talk to the girls and tell them to enjoy the time you have here at USF. Have fun and just play hard every game, because once your career is over you can't get it back. You will never be able to turn back the hands of time and relive those moments. I know I sure wish I could.
I would say all in all I had a great trip home. I actually missed my first flight to come back to Croatia - some people said I did it on purpose. LOL! It was an accident, but hey, one extra day didn't hurt. Hahaha
Until next time take care and God bless! |

| Greetings Jessica,<br> I just wanted to let you know how proud of you we are. I've been gone from Ocala for what seems like an eternity, but it's still home. I've read about you over the years via the star Banner online, and it's great to see that you're still making things happen. I wish you continued success with all of your future endeavors. And by the way "youngin". (lol) I graduated from Vanguard with Annette in 1982. The year we were State Champions, Boys and Girls!!! |

| Hey Jessie, I miss you so much but I am more proud of you each passing day as you stay and follow your dream. You are a role model for all who had an opportunity...want an opportunity. Make sure this is as much for you as it is for your community. I love you sweetie. My prayers are with you. Stay safe and play hard. Call anytime. |
