 Angel in Fort McCoy

“Katie” Jewell, age 3 years, has Cerebral Palsy and many health problems.   Her grandmother Sharon Jewell, lifts her to her wheelchair and takes care of her at home  in rural Fort McCoy, Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 19, 2007.  The family needs a van to transport a small wheelchair and other items when they leave home.  They have a small car that does not fit their need.

When I departed the Jewell house I told the grandmother she was an angel for all her hard work.  She replied that her grandchildren deserve it. This is one of the many times as a journalist I found someone doing the best with the situation, but really needed help.  When we think our lives are really difficult, try to walk in another’s shoes and you will find your life is better than you think.
