Transmitting live from the Crystal River-North Marion game at Stan Toole Memorial, plus updates of Trinity Catholic at Newberry. COLTS ADVANCE; CELTICS OUSTED

Albert Gary could get through this without being touched.
Happy Black Friday! Hope all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a productive morning of consumerism, if that's how you chose to spend the break of this post-holiday Friday. Either way, I'm glad you chose to spend this particular evening of the holiday weekend with The Sports Blog.
I'm out at Stan Toole Memorial tonight, bringing you live updates as frequently as my Internet connection allows. Meanwhile, boss of The Sports Blog Andy Marks is in Newberry for Trinity Catholic's playoff game, and I'll pass along his correspondence as well. In short, if you can't make it to a game, this is the place to be.
To set the table, here's friend of The Sports Blog Richard Burton's recap of the Trinity-Newberry OT classic from earlier this season, and full capsules on both playoff games.
Below, the games:
Crystal River 6
@ North Marion 45
UPDATE: Crystal River will receive the opening kick.
UPDATE: Starting from their own 20, the Pirates complete a 3rd-down bomb down the sideline just inside the North Marion 20. 3 downs yield 9 yards, and they go for it on 4th and 1. CR QB Shay Newcomer keeps it to get the first down at the Colts 6.
UPDATE: Pirates get to the 1 on a 1st-down pass play, then Demarrio Sims comes up with a huge sack to move the visitors back to the 9. After an incomplete pass, CR attempts a kick. The Colts D comes through again, blocking the kick to hold the Pirates on their first possession.
UPDATE: Colts offense comes out firing. Albert Gary breaks off a 25-yard sideline run, and Chuckie Looney completes a pass to Eddie Rocker to move North Marion to the Pirates 30. Just as the Colts are moving into the red zone, Looney overthrows his man and the ball lands in Pirate hands for the game’s first turnover. Pirates take over at their own 21.
UPDATE: Colts give up nothing this time, forcing a quick 3-and-out. Pirates punt, and North Marion takes possession at the Crystal River 49.
TD UPDATE: Albert Gary breaks left and runs 24 yards for the game’s first points. XP is good, and it’s 7-0 Colts with 3:18 to play.
TD UPDATE: Pirates take over at their own 24, then have to punt to Gary. Albert Gary makes them pay, returning it straight up the sideline for his 2nd TD of the game. Colts lead 14-0 with 25 seconds to play in the quarter.
NOTE: The TD was Gary’s 30th, breaking the Marion County record.
UPDATE: Crystal River takes over near midfield, and advances inside the Colts 15. Timeout.
TD UPDATE: After the Pirates turn it over on downs, Gary takes the first play of the Colts possession and runs it 87 yards for his 3rd TD. 21-0 Colts with 9:23 to play.
UPDATE: Crystal River methodically advances on the Colts red zone. They’re up to the Colts 37 with 5:45 to play in the half.
UPDATE: Colts defensive line smothers Newcomer on 3rd down to force 4th and 16. Pirates opt to go for it, and come up about 3 yards short. Colts take over at their own 30 with 4:44 to play.
UPDATE: Looney finds Darius Morgan on 3rd and 26, and Morgan jukes his way to a 1st down with 2:53 to play.
UPDATE: Looney and Morgan barely miss connecting on a 3rd-down score, and the Colts come away with nothing as a FG attempt sails wide right.
HALFTIME: Pirates can do nothing with it, and Colts take a 21-0 lead into halftime.
TD UPDATE: Colts get possession first, and here’s a surprise - Gary runs in a score. A 36-yard jaunt gives the senior RB his 4th TD of the game and North Marion a 28-0 advantage with 9:21 to play.
TD UPDATE: Colts defense forces a fumble inside the Pirates 25, and Sims falls on it. Ryan Williams cashes in on the first play from scrimmage, making it 35-0 with 8:06 to play.
UPDATE: Another turnover, this one an interception. Colts take over at the Pirates 46.
TD UPDATE: This game is all but over. Gary runs in another effortless TD on the first Colts play from scrimmage, a 46-yard score that puts the home team up 42-0 with 4:42 to play in the 3rd.
UPDATE: Crystal River bows out quickly. Colts take over the ball at their own 20 after a Pirates punt. Under 3 minutes in the 3rd.
UPDATE: Colts move the ball easily even as Gary gives way to Williams and Eddie Rocker.
UPDATE: North Marion 42, Crystal River 0 entering the final quarter. And yes, they do have running clocks in the playoffs, and this game is about to prove it.
FG UPDATE: Colts settle for 3 this time. 45-0.
UPDATE: Time is ticking away, and the fans are filing out. I’ll see you in a few with a final score.
TD UPDATE: Pirates avoid the shutout as Newcomer connects on a short pass against the second-string defense. 2-point conversion fails. 45-6, and that should do it.
FINAL: North Marion 45, Crystal River 6.
Next week: Colts host Harmony at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Harmony beat Eustis 37-0.
Trinity Catholic
@ Newberry
TD UPDATE: Terry Murphy breaks a scoreless tie with a 7-yard TD run, capping a 16-play, 73-yard Celtics scoring drive. 7-0 Trinity after one quarter.
TD UPDATE: Newberry answers quickly as a 42-yard Antwan Ivey run sets up a 19-yard TD run by Eddie Hegley. Score is 7-7 with 11 minutes in the half.
HALFTIME: Score still tied at 7-7.
UPDATE: Newberry puts together a nice drive, but comes away empty as Phil Warner misses a 47-yard FG attempt. 7-7 with 8 minutes to play in the 3rd.
UPDATE: Celtics had a nice drive going until Rob Henry tossed an interception in the end zone. Newberry takes over at its own 12.
UPDATE: Celtics defense gets it back as Eddie General picks up a Newberry fumble. Trinity has the ball in the red zone.
UPDATE: Henry throws another INT in the end zone, handing the ball back to Newberry on its own 20 as the seconds tick down in the 3rd quarter.
TD UPDATE: Newberry finally breaks the tie on a 5-yard run by Ivey. 14-7 Celtics with 7:25 to play.
UPDATE: Trinity has the ball and one last chance. Celtics trail 14-7 with a minute and a half.
FINAL: Celtics get as far as the Newberry 39 before turning it over on downs. 14-7 Newberry, and Trinity’s season is over.

| The worse display of coaching that I have ever seen. There is no way that the Celtics should not have won the game. I don't know what Nattiel was thinking. After Dempsey was hurt he still had a very good back in Murphy that he could have used. The first play after Dempsey left the game, Murphy ran for about 10 yards. The next two plays was a fullback lead and the interception in the end zone. Murphy has been a good runner all season from the fullback position. Also with almost 5 minutes left in the game you go exclusively to the pass. There was enough time during their second to the last possession to mix it up and not go 4 and 5 wide the entire possession. And let's not mention all the miscues caused perdominantly by the coaching staff. I believe there were at least 4 delay of game penalties and they were primarily caused by the coaching staff and their inability to communicate the play in time. I was very disappointed that a team so talented could be beatened purely because of poor coaching. Don't blame the players for this loss blame the coaches. |
