Ronnie Billie, of Clewiston, Fla., a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida and owner of Ronnie’s Seminole Chickees, is building traditional Seminole houses called Chickees in the Mikasuki language of his tribe.

Billie was joined by fellow Seminole Ronnie Billie and a crew working on Chickees at the Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center, Ocala, Wednesday morning, October 31, 2007, Ocala, Fla.

Examples of patchwork typical of the Seminole Tribe of Florida are always on display at the Silver River Museum.  Individual pieces are sewn together to create the design for a skirt and other clothing items.

If you are interested in learning more about  Florida’s history, visit the upcoming Ocali Country Days at the Silver River State Park, Nov. 10 -11, 2007.  Click here for more information.
