 Another Milestone For Ocala Bowlers

Location: BlogsThe Bowling Blog
Posted by: Debbie Whitten 10/21/2007 6:31 AM

First things first. An apology to Bobbi Jo Blind for the "mis quote" in the last article that she had decided to leave AMF when she stepped down from the position of Manager at AMF East to Assistant Manager at AMF Ocala. Seems that my source at AMF East was either incorrect in their information or they were assuming (and we all know what that does) that she left or just wanted to give poor or inaccurate information to see if it would be printed and what the consequences would be. Again, to Bobbi Jo Blind, I do apologize.

Moving on to more positive things - another milestone for Ocala. We have a web site dedicated to Ocala Bowling. The site is www.ocalausbcbowling.com. The front page or Home is the last blog article that appears at www.blogs.myspaceocala.com because that has all the tid bits of bowling news and the Top 10 listing. Made sense to have that as a home page because it will constantly be updated and if you don’t get a chance to read the blog you can just go to the web site and catch up.

On the left hand side of the home page are the various subcategories for the site itself. There are "links" which list the four (4) major bowling links - State Women’s Association, State BA Association, State Youth Association and bowl.com.; next is "contact us" which will open an e-mail format for you to send me a question, comment, complaint, etc. - I will respond as promptly as I can to all inquires; next is "search" - this will search the deadlines portion of the "Latest News"; next is "News Feeds" which is a link to the blog or the opening "home" page of the site; and last is "Statistics" which is where the 2006-2007 Yearbooks of Averages is located.

On the right hand side of the front page is "Latest News" and the word "deadlines" under that. Click on "deadlines" and it will bring up all the deadlines for all the tournaments that I either have information of or entry forms for. As deadlines expire they will be deleted and new ones will be posted as new information is received. Check out this area and the calendar for what’s up and coming. If you don’t find it there it is because the deadline has passed or I was not given any information regarding it so I could not include it.

On the left hand side under the column of categories is the 13 month calendar. It is full of tournaments, meetings, deadlines, etc. You can click on a day or the month and you can search for tournaments, deadlines, clubs, etc. once you are in the calendar. At this point you can view by the month, the week, a specific day or a flat view which will just list all the events for a specific month. If you need assistance please feel free to call me and we can go over the fine points of how to get the information you are looking for. All the entries are color coded - general information is black; mixed bowling is red; women’s events are green; youth events are blue; and open events are orange.

You do not need to log in or register to view any of the items on the new web site. Just go to the site and check it out.

AGAIN I WOULD LIKE TO STRESS THAT THIS SITE (ALONG WITH THE BLOG) CAN ONLY BE AS GOOD AS THE INFORMATION I RECEIVE. IF I DON’T KNOW ABOUT A TOURNAMENT, A CLUB OR A LEAGUE ACTIVITY OR RESULTS FROM A TOURNAMENT OR SOMETHING SPECTACULAR THAT HAS BEEN ACCOMPLISHED I CANNOT PASS IT ALONG TO THE BOWLERS OF MARION COUNTY. YOUR INPUT AND ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED AND WELCOMED. I STRIVE TO REPORT ALL BOWLING RESULTS THAT ARE TURNED IN TO ME OR THAT I HAVE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF THAT IS ACCOMPLISHED BY OCALA BOWLERS NO MATTER WHERE THE FEAT IS ACCOMPLISHED. THE BLOG AND THE WEB SITE ARE THE ONLY WAYS WE HAVE OF GETTING THE BOWLING INFORMATION DISTRIBUTED. LET’S MAKE IT THE BEST IT CAN BE.

At long last, and it has been three (3) months since the last ball was thrown in the 73rd State Tournament in Ocala, Florida, but checks are in the mail and some have been received by the lucky/good participant. Congratulations to those that were in the winners brackets. Once I have complete team information a listing of our local winners will be included. Should be next week.

Kudos for Ocala once again as one of Ocala’s youth coaches is going to be inducted into the Florida State USBC Youth Hall Of Fame in July, 2008. As soon as more information is received it will be shared. Do you know who this individual is? If so, do you have any tid bits to share? If so, please call me at work or home or leave me the information at any of the centers addressed to Debbie Whitten. Once I have all the information necessary to complete my article this honoree will be revealed.
