Follow all of tonight's Marion County high school football action right here.

Welcome to Week 8 of prep football in Marion County. The Sports Blog is happy to again serve as your one-stop source for updates throughout another Friday night. We've got seven games to follow tonight, so check back often, and don't forget to leave your comments.
Weather, as it often has this year, should play a prominent role tonight, likely that of antagonist or foil. These high schools need to get to work on building some domes. How much do those things really cost, anyway?
While we're waiting for the games to get started, you're welcome to have a look around. Byron Saucer wrote a compelling feature on North Marion senior Albert Gary, and Richard Burton covered Belleview's frustrating loss at Gainesville Eastside on Thursday.
You can also poke around the archives of this very blog, wherein you'll find a wealth of alternately snarky and insightful commentary.
And below, tonight's games:
Lake Weir 7 13 13 13
@ Vanguard 12 1Q 19 H 19 3Q 32 F
TD UPDATE: Vanguard strikes early. This game's on Marion County School TV if you want to watch.
TD UPDATE: Lake Weir takes the lead.
TD UPDATE: Vanguard back in front on a Kevin Hardy grab. 2-point conversion called back by penalty, XP failed.
TD UPDATE: Hardy strikes again! Kick is good this time, and it's 19-7 Knights with 4:51 to play.
TD UPDATE: Lake Weir moves to within 19-13 late in the first half. 2-point conversion fails.
UPDATE: Scoreless third quarter sets up what should be a good finish.
TD UPDATE: A sick run by Marquee Williams puts Vanguard up 25-13. Two-possession game, and the 'Canes are in trouble.
TD UPDATE: A timely pick-6 puts the Knights ahead 32-13, likely for good.
FINAL: Knights cruise the rest of the way for the 32-13 win.
Santa Fe 0 0 7
@ North Marion 35 1Q 49 H 63 F
TD UPDATE: Well, that was quick. Chuckie Looney finds Darius Morgan with a 65-yard TD pass on the first play from scrimmage, putting North Marion up 7-0. Santa Fe has just 27 kids in uniform, and apparently none of them can stay with Morgan, so this could be an ugly night.
TD UPDATE: Two plays from scrimmage, two TDs. Demarrio Sims recovered a fumble on the 26-yard line and Albert Gary ran it in from 26 on the first play of the possession, giving North Marion a 14-0 lead with 8:58 to play in the first quarter.
TD UPDATE: 3-for-3 for North Marion. Gary runs in his 2nd TD from 75 yards out on the first play after a Santa Fe punt, giving the Colts a 21-0 lead with 7:44 to play.
TD UPDATE: 4-for-4. Ryan Williams from 25 yards out after another Santa Fe punt. Colts lead 28-0 with 5:28 to play in the first.
UPDATE: It's pure domination after one quarter. Albert Gary has 3 rushes for 107 yards and 2 TDs and Tremaine McCullough has two interceptions as the Colts lead 35-0.
HALFTIME: Colts are up 49-0. Albert Gary's done for the evening after collecting his 3rd TD.
UPDATE: Running clock in effect for the whole second half. I'll update with a final when it's done.
UPDATE: Never mind about Gary taking the rest of the night off. He came back in for a kickoff return, and of course, ran it back 65 yards for a TD. 56-7 Colts. Also, North Marion kicker Cade Smith has set a school record with 8 extra points.
FINAL: This one's mercifully over. 63-7 Colts.
Chiefland 7 13
@ Trinity 28 H 37 F
HALFTIME: Trinity up three TDs at the break.
FINAL: Celtics finish off the victory.
Providence 12 34 48 62
@ OCA 0 1Q 0 H 12 3Q 18 F
UPDATE: Providence blanking OCA after one quarter.
UPDATE: And at the half.
UPDATE: OCA's on the board, but still far behind.
FINAL: OCA takes the loss.
Forest 11
@ Leesburg 34 F
FINAL: The Orlando Sentinel has the Yellow Jackets winning in a rout.
Williston 41
@ West Port 27 F
FINAL: West Port takes the loss.
Warner 42
@ St. John 8 F |
