Hello Ocala bowlers. The Florida State USBC Women’s Bowling Association, Inc.’s Annual Tournament Results are official and Ocala Women were among the winners. Division 4 Team - 19th Place Ocala Beach Bunnies: Sarah Hogue, Robin Rumans, Gabriela Trombley, Nancy Crews; Division 4 Team - 21st Place Ocala’s Silver Ladies: Prudy Waite, Lillian Maxwell, Glenna Burns, Evelyn Simcox; Division 5 Team - 7th Place Lola’s Girls: Lisa Thomas, Patti Styles, Kerri Roy, Laura Burgoon; Division 5 Team - 10th Place Alley Gators: Fair Cox, Shirley Pritchard, Irene Kish, Mimi Kish; Division 3 Doubles - 48th Place Heather Moody/Shannon Drivas; Division 4 Doubles - 67th Place Prudy Waite/Glenna Burns; Division 5 Doubles - Sandra Griffin/Penny Lumpkin 20th Place; Irene Kish/Mimi Kish 23rd Place; Division 2 Singles - Julie Dove 35th Place; Division 3 Singles - Tammy Lolley 43rd Place; Evelyn Simcox 61st Place; Division 4 Singles - Heather Moody 13th Place; Nancy Crews 86th Place; Barbara Cook 114th Place; Division 5 Singles - Patti Styles 45th Place; Division 3 All Events - Tammy Lolley 5th Place; Division 4 All Events - Nancy Crews 6th Place; Heather Moody 11th Place; Division 5 All Events - Patti Styles 10th Place. Way to go Ocala Women.

The Second Ocala USBC WBA 9 Pin No-Tap Scotch Doubles Tournament was held on June 24, 2007, at AMF Ocala and the winners are: 1st place Debby Allread and Willie Carpenter with 2nd place going to Beth Jones and her son JJ Jones (they took 1st place in the first tournament). 3rd place went to Marianne Chase and Jim Leeson with Jodi Ryder and David Teets taking 4th place (the last paying spot). The 3rd 9 Pin No-Tap Scotch Doubles Tournament will be on September 9, 2007, at AMF Ocala. Entry forms are available at the centers or you can contact Jodi Ryder 454-2439, Pam Williams 598-2067, Julie Dove 595-5091, or Tammy Lolley 622-6650.

The 2007 Women’s National Championship Tournament was held in Charlotte, North Carolina, and many of the Ocala Women Bowlers make the journey, participated, had a great time eating out, visiting and making new friends. We have learned that there is a disqualification so that the pay out will be held up approximately 30 days. As soon as Official Results are available we will advise if there are any of the Ocala Women who will be receiving a "check" from Nationals. The National Championship in 2008 will be in Detroit, Michigan and then it returns to Reno, Nevada in 2009. Entry forms are available at bowl.com. or in the league packets that the secretaries picked up at the workshop.

The 2007 Open Championship is official. Many of the local bowlers received "checks". As soon as the listing is complete by USBC we will post the winners names. The 2008 Open Championship will be in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Entry forms are available at bowl.com or in the league packets that the secretaries picked up at the workshop.

The 2007 State Open Championship which was hosted by the Marion County USBC Bowling Association ended on July 1, 2007. Unfortunately, there are numerous "disqualifications" so that the unofficial results are all that are posted at this time. There were several Ocala bowlers who are "in the money" but we have to wait for the appeals process to be completed before they "Officially" will be winners. There were some "Honor" scores rolled by local bowlers and to the best of my know these will hold up: Tyson Kurth 801 series; Charles Axe, Jr. 825 series; Robert Craft 300 game; Brian Carney 300 game; Charlie Duesling 300 game; Roger Bowker 300 game; Lance Roerts 298 game; Randy Knox 11 in a row 296 and Charles Axe, Jr. 11 in a row 290. Word has it that the first place team is from Ocala and that there are some doubles winner and some singles winner - but we will wait until we have the official word before congratulating those bowlers.

The 2008 State Open Championship will be held in the Jupiter/Boynton Beach area. Entry forms will be out in October. The tournament will only run 9 weekends May 3 through June 29. Get your entry in early to be assured of the date and time you want.

Entry forms are available at the centers for most of the upcoming tournaments such as Florida Senior Women, Florida Women’s State, State 500, State 600 and Nationals. If you don’t find an entry for you are looking for please let the bowling center know what you are looking for and they will contact the appropriate individuals or give you their contact information.

Bowler Of The Year Roll-off will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at AMF West. If you are eligible to participate please come out and join in the fun. There is no cost to the bowler - just come and bowl!!

Remember that your league officers do not have control over the lane conditions (oil or lack thereof) or the center conditions (air conditioning) at the bowling centers. Those are controlled by AMF CORPORATION. Please voice any complaints to the staff at AMF and not just to your league officers.

NOTE: There is a web site being developed and should be unveiled the middle of September. Once it is launched information will be provided. There will be a direct link to the blog as well as to bowl.com and the state associations included. More later.

Re: Ready for the 2007-2008 Season By PAULA DEUTSCH on 8/18/2007 1:01 PM
We still need more youth bowlers!!!!! It is apparent that AMF does not intend to promote youth bowling since none of the youth bowlers from AMF EAST ever received a post card or phone call from the center reminding them of the sign up dates. I heard from a lot of parents that if it had not been for word of mouth they would have not known anything about it. AMF is always ready to tell you that the leagues are theirs but when it comes to promoting or improving them where are they!!!!! I would like to see the mangement and staff at any of these centers in town take a little pride in a program that brings them a lot of money throughout the year. I think AMF CORP needs to take a look at who they are placing in there centers as well, obviously these people are not bowlers.

The parents and the youth bowlers need to go to the staff at AMF and voice their complaints - not just to the individuals who are volunteering their time to get the leagues organized. Please pass the word to the parents - let them go to the source. If AMF wants to be the manger of the manged leagues or take the president and/or secretary - treasurer position then they need to step up to the plate but they will be bound by the USBC rules for those positions. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for reading the Bowling Blog.

I agree with your comments concerning AMF.

Is it possible to include a list of leagues that are looking for bowlers. The Silver Rollers Senior Mixed amd Russ Hitz Senior Men are looking for both individuals and teams. Any help will be appreciared.

Carl: I will include in the next article. I need to know when the leagues bowl and if you want men and women or just men.
