The heat continues... it's killing us spiritually. We're starting to snipe at each other. There's a lot of love, but even Elvis would get on the Lisa Marie and jet out of here during this heatwave. Friday, Aug. 17
Heartbreak Hotel
It's so hot. We're all so tired; and I don't just mean my group. Nerves are taut; tempers are flaring. We all love each other, but it's plain we've had too much togetherness and the heat is just killing us.
Lots of hugs and making-up going on, but it sure is easy to see how the crime rate might raise with the temperature.
Mama and I toured the mansion today, since we missed our original tour date. Oh man, there must have been 10,000 people through the house today. We waited on line for quite awhile, but there were hundreds more behind us. Inside the mansion, it was hip to hip, and even into the outer wings, trophy room and racquetball court.
That's where the court, formerly used for sport, now sports floor to ceiling accolades -- not just gold or platinum record notations; but 50 million record plaques and the stunning glass sculpture from industry officials that confers upon Elvis, "Greatest recording artist of all time."
The grave site still is piled high with tributes. The fresh flower arrangements, including those from Priscilla and Lisa Marie, flanking the headstone, are mere shadows of their former majestic selves.
I simply can't comprehend how much money has been spent here this week. The cash registers are hot to the touch they're ringing so fast. I'm sure the staff here will be glad when all these crazy fans go home.
So that's what we'll do. Soon.
Tomorrow morning, we'll wake really early to volunteer for the annual Elvis Presley 5-K run and walk to benefit cerebral palsy. First we'll sell leis, then we'll give away hot dogs.
Lawdy Miss Clawdy; get your hot doggie right over here!
I need sleep!

Aside from the sweltering conditions, I haven't been this envious since Oprah & Gayle feasted with Lisa Marie around Graceland's dining room table. I've been there twice, in the winter, when it was ten degrees below zero here in Minnesota and we thought the 62-degree February Memphis temperature was balmy. Thanks again for your terrific blog!

Thank you so much for the wonderful week of blogs! I just felt as if I were right there with all the hot happenings...enjoying it all while in my air conditioned office in my home. Go home, get some sleep and bask in the fact that Elvis has smiled (big) while looking down on it all. Great job!

My nephew, who lives in Memphis, has CP; and I am a special ed parapro for Marion County School District. Thank you for walking for CP and for all the other donations your groups have made to those less fortunate. The death toll from the heat in the Midwest is now about 44 -- don't let it get any higher, y'hear?? Lots of A/C and sips of water and Gatorade!!
