My how time flies. Seems that we were getting ready for Fall leagues to end and Summer leagues to form and get on the lanes and now here we are back to the beginning of a new Fall season. School will be starting on August 20, 2007, and most Fall leagues will be scheduling organizational meeting that week or the next and hitting the lanes shortly after the Labor Day Holiday. We have come full circle.
Reminder - League Officers - Workshop on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. at AMF East - there are rule changes and other tidbits that will be revealed at the workshop so make plans to attend. Ask questions if you are unsure of a rule change, or an association change or if you are new to the area and need general information - this is the place to be.
One of the biggest changes is that USBC is pushing for everything to be "downloaded" from their web site. This eliminates preparing and mailing books, flyers, notices, etc. and leaves it up to the league officers or the bowler themselves to get the information being distributed rather than having USBC provide it to them in the "old" way - through the US Mail. Times are a changing and not always for the best. USBC does not take into consideration that not every American owns or has access to a computer and/or the Internet. Does not seem to be a concern as the state in their information "if you don't have access to a computer ask someone who does to print out the information for you." Wonder where it will end.
Another reminder is that the Youth signups will be at AMF Ocala and AMF East on Saturday, August 11 and Saturday, August 18, 2007, commencing at 9:00 a.m. until ? - leagues will start competition on September 8, 2007. If you have questions or need more information please contact Robin SIsto, Association Manager at 732-2788. At this time there is no youth leagues at AMF West. However, if the interest is there and the youth would like to see a league there please let Ms. Sisto know. Call her - we are always happy to set up and assist new leagues and promoting youth bowling.
There will be an important meeting of the Marion County USBC Youth Association on Saturday, September 29, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at AMF East. Discussion of restructuring the association, election of officers, changes to the by-laws, registered volunteer program, and much more. Make plans to be in attendance. Due to a change in the Youth Leader Program any youth bowler is eligible to attend the meeting.
