Feature racing is underway at Ocala Speedway. Check here for live updates.

Modified Feature No. 2

Patrick Mennenga took advantage of an inverted field to get to the top and win the second modified feature. Teddy Nelson followed in second with Alan McCafferty, Curtis Neumann and Kurt Jett rounding out the top 5. Neumann’s fourth-place finish was good enough to earn him a $1,000 bonus for the most points earned in the two races.

After a full field inversion, Mike Batten led the 17-car field to the green flag with Daniel Webster alongside. After running second in the first feature and starting second to last, Troy Robinson pulled into the infield after four laps.

Mennenga moved up from third to challenge Batten for the lead as Gary Southard spun in turn 4 to bring out the caution on lap 6. Mennenga used the restart to his advantage, diving inside to take the lead. Teddy Nelson moved to second and Don Strosahl followed to third.

Stosahl’s night went sour with his rear end gear on lap 9, bringing out a red flag period that lasted nearly 30 minutes. On the restart, Batten got tagged in turn 2 by David Castello to bring out another caution. Batten regained his third position as Mike Stalnaker moved to fourth.

Patton shoved high in turn four on lap 13, opening the door for Stalnaker, McCafferty, Neumann and Jett to get by. McCafferty then raised Stalnaker out of the racing groove and moved to third.

Southard slammed into the turn 1 wall on lap 18, bunching up the field under caution for a seven lap shootout for the win. After crashing out in the first feature, Southard rode his car on the hook to the pits again.

Mennenga led Nelson and McCafferty to the green flag with seven laps to go. He gained three car lengths in the first lap back to green, an advantage he would take to the finish.

Modified Feature No. 1

Robbie Cooper broke first and led from green to checkered to win the first of two twin 25-lap features. Troy Robinson finished second followed by Curtis Neumann, Alan McCafferty, and Kurt Jett.

Robinson sat on the pole, but Cooper won the race to the first turn to lead. The first caution flag flew on lap 7 when Johnny Newsome and Jeremy Gerstner tangled in turn 4, collecting Don Strosahl along the way. Strosahl continued while Newsome and Gerstner headed to the pits.

Robinson continued to hound Cooper as Neumann settled in behind in third. McCafferty made it a four-car train that broke away from the rest of the pack.

Gary Southard brought out the second caution on lap 17 when he spun backward into the turn 3 wall after being tagged by Patrick Mennenga.

The restart set up an eight-lap shootout between the top four. Cooper pulled away in the waning laps to take the win.

Street Stock

Pete close missed his heat race, started from the back of the pack, and still overcame all takers to win the Street Stock feature.

Shelby Mather and Joe Boyd battled for the lead in the opening laps, coming together in turn 2 on the fourth lap. Mather hooked Boyd into the outside wall, wedging both cars into the barrier. Both continued as the caution flag fell, but Mather was sent to the rear of the field by officials for rough driving while Boyd kept the lead.

He wouldn’t keep it for long, as Justin Durbin moved by on lap 6. But Close had already made it to third in a furious rush, taking second from Boyd on lap 9.

A caution for debris on lap 12 put Close right behind Durbin, setting up an eight-lap battle for the win. Close wasted no time and went to the outside of Durbin, taking the high line to the lead for good on lap 14.

4-Cylinder Stock

Brandon Elwood sat on the pole and held off his cousin, Justyn Elwood, for 20 laps to win the 4-Cylinder Stock feature, culminating in a photo finish.

Justyn Elwood took a shot on his cousin on the last lap, drawing even in turn 2. The two raced side-by-side through turns 3 and 4, but Brandon Elwood won the drag race to the finish line by a fender.

Sportsman Feature

After disqualifications in post-race inspection, Shelton Bowers was declared the winner.

Mike Mennenga started on the pole and led flag-to-flag for the Sportsman feature win.

Though 13 cars were entered, three dropped out before the field took the green flag. The short field moved John Mamph to a seventh-place starting spot, where he wouldn’t stay for long. Mamph moved to fifth in two laps as Mike Mennenga led the field early.

Mamph then moved in on Tim Schull for third. Schull held on to the show position as Mennenga beat Shelton Bowers by over a full straightaway for the win.

Pure Stock Feature

Jesse Corbitt moved by Larry Welter in the middle stages and held on to win the 20-lap Pure Stock feature.

James Sullivan brought the 10-car field to the green flag and led early. Welter squeezed by Sullivan on lap 6 and brought Corbitt with him to second. Corbitt wasted no time, taking the lead away from Welter on lap 8.

Matt Schell, who won his heat race with ease and started at the rear of the feature field, lost his engine on lap 9, retiring him from the race and bringing out the caution flag. He had moved up to fourth and was challenging the lead pack when his engine expired.

Sullivan lost a rear end and a right rear wheel on the restart. Sullivan spun across the track on the backstretch as his tire bounced off a track billboard and wound up in the turn 3 retention pond.

Heat Races Recap

Mike Mennenga drove away from the field to win the first Sportsman heat race while John Mamph and Tim Schull took repeated shots at each other in the second heat. Shelton Bowers held on to take the win over both.

Joe Boyd held off Shelby Mather and David Foster to win the fist Street Stock heat. Justin Durbin drove away from Paul Robinson to win heat No. 2.

Matt Schell cruised to victory in the one and only heat race for the V-8 Pure Stocks. Fresh up from the rookie class, Josh Brown held on to second over Jesse Corbitt.

In the lone 4-Cylinder division heat race, the Elwood cousins ran one-two with Brandon Elwood getting the better of Justyn Elwood. Richard Kuhn moved up from last to finish third.
