An endless stream of cheap entertainment – and more!

Day before yesterday, a Friday, I took the day off from work because I had a medical procedure performed which pretty much took up the entire day. Yes, it did involve anesthesia. After I awoke from the drugs, my wife drove me to a restaurant where we ate, then we continued on home. I watched TV for a short while, then decided to take a nap. I still felt somewhat uneasy, from the effects of the anesthesia, I guess.
About an hour later, I awoke. My wife had suggested we go to the flea market Saturday morning, a trip we make about every three months or so, and I agreed. But Friday evening, I started experiencing some mild symptoms I had been warned about at the clinic. So I told my better half I’d make a final decision about the flea market trip on Saturday morning, and whether we went or not would depend on how I felt.
Saturday morning when I awoke, I felt fine, but I was still somewhat concerned that some of those symptoms might return, so I asked my better half if she would mind putting off the flea market excursion until Sunday. That was fine with her, so I pretty much spent most of the day just doing simple little tasks, and watching a bit of TV, but most of the day I spent in front of my computer running all over the Internet looking at areas that attracted my attention. First one site, then another. If you spend any time at all surfng the ’Net, then I’m sure you know what I’m talking about.
We had decided to go out for dinner once I had convinced myself those symptoms had all played out, and we decided to leave the house at 4 p.m. It must have been about noon when I turned the computer on. I was going here, there, and just about everywhere on the Internet for hours on end. I got so interested in the stuff I was finding that I never even looked at my watch. I remember thinking several times that I should check the time, only to tell myself I’ll do it in a minute, soon as I check out the next site. Then, of course, I would forget about looking at my watch. Finally, about the fourth time it occurred to me to check the time, I was shocked to see the watch was registering 15:58, or two minutes until 4 p.m.!
What? I blurted out. How could I let the time get away from me so easily, and so completely? But the Internet is like that. It provides many an afternoon or evening of cheap entertainment!
I wonder what it was we used to do, before the Internet was invented? I can hardly remember back that far, anymore, y’know?
Whatever it was, I’m sure it wasn’t nearly as interesting as the Internet can be!

Sly,
We used to watch crummy television, Ha! But more than likely we spent more time outdoors. Either way around, we're better off because of the internet. At least now we have confidence in all our ignorance as we're better informed, or at least think that we are. Keep on surfing!
