The pills I take each morning to ward off first one affliction, then another, seem to be great enough in quantity to qualify as an extra meal each day, and whenever I pass by a mirror, or build up enough courage to step on the scale, then one might reasonably think those pills contained at least enough calories to equal another meal each day. I kind of wish the federal government would require nutrition labels on prescriptions because I’m almost certain the pills must contain quite a few calories.
My proof for such a position literally stares me in the face while gazing at any mirror. How else could I explain all those excess pounds? Calorie-free pills could remedy that situation. Sounds like an idea whose time has come – to me anyway. With all the research dollars expended each year in this country on far less mundane pursuits, I think this one, relatively speaking, should be at least worthy of consideration.
However, I suppose I have to admit, it might not be the pills that are responsible for the increasing load around my waist. It just might be the food I keep shoveling into my mouth even though my stomach has never once mentioned the word “hunger” to me in a number of years. I always try to keep my stomach full enough to avoid that situation, and it seems to be working. However, it also seems to be working way too well. Perhaps cutting back to five or six meals per day might help, but then I might risk having to suffer hunger pangs, and I’m not too sure I want to experience that situation.
Life just seems to be chock-full of choices, and most of them seem to fall on the bad side of the ledger. Lately I’ve been checking the nutrition labels on various foods to get a better perspective on exactly what I’ve been placing in my mouth, and my most common reaction is something like “WHAT? They’ve GOT to be kidding! HOW can they possibly cram SO MANY calories into such a SMALL package?”
Some of the stuff off the grocery store shelf is mind-numbing in its caloric content. I guess to make any kind of headway at all in the Battle of the Bulge, one has to become familiar with the approximate calorie content of the foods they are most likely to eat. So that’s what I have been doing. And here is what I’ve discovered so far: ANYTHING that tastes good has a VERY high calorie count. And most of the stuff that’s low in calories is pretty bland stuff. Rice cakes aren’t exactly what my palate cries out for.
Well, I suppose I could put off that diet for another week or two . . . maybe even a month or so . . . perhaps a year? I know if I keep putting it off long enough, one day it will no longer be necessary! Hmmm. . . guess you have to think about that one for awhile! |
