GULF COAST MODIFIEDS
Ocala Speedway regulars dominated the Gulf Coast Modified Series 50-lapper, taking all top 5 finishing positions. Robbie Cooper moved from fourth to first early and held off Wayne Jefferson to take the win.
Only 16 cars started the race filled with mostly Ocala Speedway drivers. Lee Collins led the field to green but Alan McCafferty moved to the front on lap 2. Cooper hounded McCafferty and got by in turn 1 on lap 3.
Jefferson moved up from fifth to finish second, and McCafferty held off David Baxley for third. Curtis Neumann made it an Ocala Speedway top 5 sweep, moving up to finish fifth.
LATE MODELS
The Late Model feature turned upside down before the cars ever took the green flag, and a surprise winner took to the front of the pack and stole the show.
Wayne Anderson, the perennial favorite at Ocala Speedway, lost an engine on the parade lap and parked his car for the night. Scott Millar seized the opportunity and made the best of his front row starting spot, holding on to the lead and wining by half a lap.
James Powell III moved up from fifth to finish second and Kevin Bryant came home third.
STREET STOCKS
The first of two Street Stock features started off with contact between two perennial favorites in the field. Pete Close and Jeff Stalnaker started on the front row and tangled in turn 1 on the first lap. Stalnaker sent Close spinning backwards softly into the wall, but both cars were able to restart on the front row because the field had not completed a full lap.
On the restart, Stalnaker jumped ahead of Close, but Close tapped Stalnaker again in turn 1. Close softly bounced off the wall again, but he got the lead spot back as officials sent Close to the rear of the field.
Stalnaker then led the entire 20-lap race with Close digging his way back to third. Shane Nichols held Close off for second.
In the second Street Stock feature, Dan Trembley moved from third to first in the opening laps to cruise to victory. Pete Close again had the fastest car but tangled with traffic early and could not make up enough ground.
Justin Durbin finished second, three car lengths back, and Stalnaker moved up from way back in the field to finish third.
THUNDERSTOCKS
Ocala Speedway rookie Chris Oliveri slammed his way to the lead with a lap to go to take his first Thunderstock feature win of the year.
Oliveri moved inside of Scott Anderson as the leaders moved out of turn 4 looking at the white flag. Anderson blocked Oliveri into the infield grass and in turn lost control of his car. The two spun and collided with each other in turn 1, and officials moved Anderson to the rear of the field and Oliveri to the lead.
Oliveri held on for a one lap duel to take the win ahead of Bill Thomas and Josh Brown. Anderson finished fourth.
The second Thunderstock feature saw just as much excitement with two different players. Thomas used the entire racetrack and the turn 4 wall on the last lap to hold off Brown for his first win of the year.
As the cars took the white flag, Brown moved up the racetrack to try and pass Thomas on the high side, a task not easily accomplished. Thomas saw Brown creeping up and moved up the track in the third and fourth turns, driving so high that he pinched Brown in the corner as he bounced off the wall.
The two cars crawled across the finish line with Thomas still ahead. Brown finished second, and Oliveri followed in third.
V8 STOCKS
Matt Shell got by rival James Erickson early on in the V8 Stock feature and cruised on to victory. Erickson held on for second as Jesse Corbitt finished a distant third.
The race was stopped for nearly a half an hour when Jim Kruse lost an engine and every ounce of oil in his car.
4 CYLINDER STOCKS
Justin Durbin raced to his second feature win of the year in the 4 Cylinder Stock class, driving to a large lead in front of the carnage behind him. While Durbin celebrated in victory lane, a fight broke out in the pits after two siblings were roughed up on the track.
Shawn Evans spun Brandon Elwood in turn one on the second lap in a crash that collected Justyn Elwood as well. As Durbin grew his lead, the Elwoods, Evans and his teammate, Richard Kuhn, traded paint all over the race track.
Brandon Elwood rallied to finish second with Joey Durbin coming home third. On the cool down lap, Justin Elwood and Kuhn made contact, triggering a fight after the race between the Elwoods, Kuhn and Evans.
SPORTSMAN
Dave Kinsey held off constant advances from Arthur Conquest to win the 20-lap Sportsman feature. Conquest finished second and John Mamph stayed close behind to finish third.
The race was slowed for two cautions, both for spins by Jim Higginbotham and Matt Bloom.
