Easter is here, we are well into Spring and the "Snowbirds" are leaving. Traffic is less congested, waits for tables at restaurants are shorter and sales are lower. Or are they? Easter is here, we are well into Spring and the "Snowbirds" are leaving. Traffic is less congested, waits for tables at restaurants are shorter and sales are lower. Or are they? Have you tracked your sales by season? Are they snowbird dependent? If so, have you developed a strategy to boost sales to year-round residents?
If you track sales in units and dollars, as well as the average sale amount per customer, you will be able to compare month to month and quarter to quarter results. If your business has a seasonal aspect to it you can then develop a strategy to offset it by boosting sales to year-round residents (and / or tourists) during the "slow season."
Strategies that work well for local businesses are seasonal discounts, "two-fors," and free or discounted installation with orders depending on what you sell. Does anybody have other techniques they use to offset seasonality in their sales? |

That's an interesting question you raise. I've heard, only anecdotally, that the migration of our part-time residents has decreased over the winter months in recent years.
That would stand to reason with the increase in fuel prices in recent years, but I'd be interested to see if anyone in our business community has hard data to that effect, or to the contrary. |
