So many projects – so little time!

There are waayyyyy toooo many distractions in life, don’tcha know? I’ve been trying to write a little book for several years now, and I go at it hot and heavy for a few weeks, then I take a breather to do something else I’m also interested in. That “something else” can take many forms: Ham radio, stereo photography, guitar pickin’, manipulating photos on my computer, surfing the Internet, reading a book, discovering some new practice I’m interested in. My list of Muses seems to grow with each passing year.
And I haven’t even gotten around to building a website yet, in fact, I know little about it, so when that day finally dawns, as it inevitably will, I’ll no doubt find myself rushing headlong into yet another area of interest, that will dominate my time and keep me from completing other projects already started, then temporarily (I hope!) abandoned.
It seems like there are a lot of distractions to arrest my attention and seduce me into going into yet another direction away from my goal. Sometimes these little side trips take months of my time. I think if I could only get myself singularly focused on one task at a time and stick with it until it’s completed, I’d have a lot more accomplishments to show for the time I’ve invested. As it is, my life is littered with dozens of projects, all in various stages of completion, or perhaps I should say “un”completion.
I think probably one of the greatest sculptors to ever have lived was Michaelangelo Buonarroti. I’ve read that he once went for 30 years without completing one sculpture he had started. I can sympathize with that situation, believe me! My biggest fear is that it may say on my tombstone something like, “Here lies a talented guy, too bad he left no finished works to prove it!”
I often envy those souls whose lives seem ruled by one single-minded passion, who let no distractions into other areas of interest deter them from completing whatever their task at hand happens to be.
I suppose that’s called discipline, but it’s a quality I’ve always appreciated but never embraced. Guess that’s why I’m not a millionaire today, y’suppose?

No, your life is not 'littered' with lots of projects! Life is full of wonderful challenges. The best ones will become the novel --you have very little to do with destiny!
