Imagining Daunte in Tampa Bay |

On the face of it, Daunte Culpepper with the Buccaneers doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But things that don't make sense have worked before, and the potential for it to work here exists.
The story is in its infancy as of this writing, but the St. Petersburg Times reported Thursday evening that Culpepper, the Ocala native and Vanguard graduate, met with coach Jon Gruden and other Bucs decision makers as Tampa International Airport on Thursday, and the team subsequently confirmed the meeting. The developing story had a cloak-and-dagger feel that I appreciated, complete with a discreet airport meeting. I'm still waiting to read the name "Carmen Sandiego" in an update.
So that was certainly fun, but thinking about the possibilities of Daunte in Tampa is even moreso. The upshot of the now-confirmed meeting is that the Bucs see value in adding Daunte to their stable of damaged-goods quarterbacks, and that's interest ...

Brantley's work cut out for him in Gainesville |

As the article states, Brantley likely won't see a lot of time as a freshman. That's to be ...

I'm not sure what the Magic did this summer will make the championship contenders anytime soon. But if I'm a Magic fan, I'm happy.
The Orlando Magic officially got Rashard Lewis and locked up Dwight Howard, sacrificing Darko Milicic and waving a wistful goodbye to Grant Hill. They plan to run Howard at center, Shard at power forward and Hedo Turkoglu at small forward. Those three scored a combined 53.3 points per game last year, and bring a nice mix of low-post power and perimeter marksmanship.
I have concerns. First of all, Lewis is not a power forward, and I fear his slender frame will be damaged by the banging that goes on in the paint. Second, they wildly overpaid for him, although the Magic were smart enough to hedge their bets on the sixth year, and overpayment is necessary to land an all-star ...
