Sousaphones by Jannet Walsh
By photoblog on 9/1/2008 10:55 AM

A line of sousaphones, wearable tubas that are brass instruments with valves to produce musical notes, makes their way on the field.

The West Port High School Wolf Pack Marching Band performed Friday evening during a break between the junior varsity and varsity football games between Belleview High School and West Port High School at the West Port field.  Kara Bibean the assistant drum major, directed the band from the podium, with the drum major Jessica Kronick, playing a variety of percussion instruments during the field performance with approximately 75 band members, Friday evening, Aug. 29, 2008, Ocala, Florida.

My favorite rabbi by Jannet Walsh

Cantors, rabbis and Jewish faithful cover their heads with a yarmulke, small round skullcap.

The past ten years in Ocala, Florida I have photographed many people and events. The late Rabbi Samuel Dov Berman, age 61, of Temple Beth Shalom in Ocala, was a cantor when I originally photographed him on one of my many photo assignments for the Star-Banner.  I even included him in my “Muslims in Marion” project in 2006.  Click here to see and here Rabbi Berman in the project, found a ...

Oak Face by Erica Brough
By photoblog on 8/26/2008 3:01 PM

Drivers at the corner of SR 35 and SR 464 may have noticed an amusing character
watching them, perhaps the oak tree is reacting to the amount of traffic that builds at
that intersection during rush hour in Ocala, Fla, shown Monday, August 25, 2008.
The eyes and nose were added to the tree over a naturally existing hole in the trunk.

Pretty Bird by Erica Brough
By photoblog on 8/19/2008 2:19 PM

This pretty little bird and I enjoyed the same beautiful scenery during the annual
Budweiser Live Oak International Combined Driving Event at Live Oak Stud in
Ocala, Fla. While waiting for the Budweiser Clydesdales to show, I rested in the
shade of these magnificent live oaks.

Sid by Erica Brough
By photoblog on 8/12/2008 10:31 AM

I met this kid, Sid was his name, sitting on the bank of Juniper Wayside in the Ocala National Forest in
early February. He was trying to find the Rainbow Family but wasn't sure where to go.
He had hitchhiked to the forest wearing several layers of clothing and carrying a bag
of food. He was very quiet and in no hurry to go anywhere; and he didn't mind that I was
taking pictures of him.
